Palazzo Sergardi Biringucci

Noble residence built in the eighteenth century (1744) by the architect Posi on commission of a Sergardi, it is located at number 118 of the Via dei Montanini in Siena, not far from Piazza del Campo and along the path of what the pilgrims of ancient times knew like the "Via Francigena".

A marble plaque on the ancient portal reads as follows: "These were the domestic walls of Lodovico Sergardi who, named Quinto Settano, great lover of Latin poetry, wrote the satire with the strength of Juvenal with the grace of Flaccus"

The vaults of the six salons placed on the main floor of the house, subject to monumental restrictions due to its high historical and cultural value, they were frescoed in 1794 by Luigi Ademollo, a Lombard painter also commissioned by the Sergardi; they are therefore embellished with suggestive mythological representations that integrate well with the intimacy of a delicious Family chapel, while the floors made in Pompeian style and the portals embellished with gold frames complete the vision of an eighteenth-century and rare architectural testimony.

On the main floor there is the Piccolo Teatro, creation of the Baroness Marga Sergardi Marmoross who in the mid-1900s transferred the theatrical experience she had given life to years earlier (1935) in the family palace by creating, in the garden of the Villa di Catignano, the Teatro di Campagna and setting up that Compagnia del Gallo, who, thanks to the precious participation of the young sons of the sharecroppers who lived on the farm and improvised themselves as actors, then went on to represent, not only in Siena and Tuscany, children's fairy tales written by Marga and staged by herself.

From the large eighteenth-century courtyard that opens on the ground floor under the watchful gaze of "marble" ancestors, you enter the lawn of a garden terrace embellished with a rose garden, an ancient and rare vine, splendid hydrangeas and a romantic couple of medlar trees; the old stable and saddlery also overlook the terrace, both particularly suggestive spaces and the subject of a recent and valuable restoration and conservative rehabilitation.

Also on the garden terrace opens up a place of considerable charm: Spazi Sonori, a magic box in constant evolution created in 2016 by Antonello Palazzolo. Crossing the threshold is the beginning of a journey, regardless of whether it is short or long, through the times, the atmospheres, the shapes. Old scores, photographs and historical pianos animated by the artist tell us many stories of contemporary beauty that surprisingly integrate perfectly with the much older history of Palazzo Sergardi.

Today Palazzo Sergardi Biringucci welcomes intimate weddings, receptions, exclusive private events, meetings, exhibition events, private concerts, book presentations; in fact, all this can be found in the halls on the main floor, in the Corte degli Avi, in the old stable and in the adjacent saddlery, on the lawn of the garden terrace with adjoining catering area.
